Network Regions/IP Ranges
Network regions is the most common way that IP phones are tracked
within an enterprise.
Network regions (sometimes referred to as subnets or VLANs)
are established on the voice network according to a logical, geographical layout.
For example, the diagram below shows each floor of a building is defined as a separate
network region.

The IT group allocates a block of IP addresses in the DHCP server for use exclusively
within each network regions. When a phone plugs into the region, it will get an
IP address from the block of address that are set aside for that region. The phone
then registers with the call server and E911 Manager™ gets an event with the IP address
of the Phone. Analyzing the IP address, E911 Manager™ can determine that the phone
is within a specific region and can write the appropriate ELIN to the call server.
If the phone dials 911, the ELIN is output by the call server. When the ELIN arrives
at the PSAP is triggers a data dip for the corresponding location record (ALI).
Each Network Region has its own unique ELIN and ALI record.
